Atomic Platters Artist George McKelvey Has Passed Away

Comedian, folk singer and Atomic Platters recording artist (and Scopitone star!) George McKelvey passed away from a stroke in Hemet, California on Friday (March 6th). He was 72. Many CONELRAD readers will remember George from his satirical 1964 song My Radiation Baby (My Teenage Fallout Queen) that was included on the Atomic Platters compilation released by Bear Family Records in 2005. George was kind and gracious enough to be interviewed by CONELRAD's Bill Geerhart for his artist biography that appears in the book that is included in the box set. George also starred (with Mary Pom) in a Scopitone video of the song that will live forever on YouTube.

Steve Martin, who was aided in his early stand-up comedy career by George, includes several warm passages about him in his great memoir Born Standing Up.

George will be missed by many.
