UK Releases 70's Era Civil Defence Broadcast Script

The National Archives in the United Kingdom has recently released a 1970s-era script that was to be read to the British people over their airwaves in the event of a nuclear attack. The Archives has also released internal memos discussing the script and the tone in how it should be read (comforting and authoratative). The full text of the script can be read here.

The BBC website article features a video clip of Harry Shearer reading the script in his best Walter Cronkite voice.

CONELRAD would like to applaud the UK for releasing this material. Perhaps it will make our own endless fight to get the U.S. version of such a script and / or recordings declassified. Somehow we doubt it though.
