THESE ARE THE DAMNED, 1963
TCM's "Radiation Damage" Film Festival Airs July 2

Starting July 2nd Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will be showing a mix of well known and obscure Atomic Films in its "Radiation Damage" festival. And while it will be nice to be able to see THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN (1957) and MAD MAX (1979), CONELRAD is most excited about the rare airing of CITY OF FEAR (1959), a film unavailable on any home video format (not even Beta)! FEAR stars Vince Edwards as an escaped convict who carries a deadly load of radioactive powder (Cobalt 60) into Los Angeles. Will L.A. survive? Tune in to TCM on July 2nd at 1:15 AM or rev up the TiVo to find out.

Also of note is the restored print of Joseph Losey's seldom seen HammerScope downer THESE ARE THE DAMNED. Government scientists (Alexander Knox) and Teddy Boys (Oliver Reed) rumble in this exceptionally bleak Quatermass meets Clockwork Orange mashup.

For a complete schedule of the films, visit the Radiation Damage page. Thank you TCM and thanks to loyal CONELRAD reader Liz Owens for tipping us off to the festival.
