Rare CONELRAD 100 Films on TV in June

The rare (not on DVD!) CONELRAD 100 atomic film titles ABOVE AND BEYOND and THE WORLD, THE FLESH, AND THE DEVIL will air at 11AM (Pacific) on June 11 and at 1:15AM (Pacific) June 23 on TCM respectively. For more information visit Turner Classic Movies.

ABOVE AND BEYOND
DIRECTORS: Melvin Frank, Norman Panama
YEAR: 1952

Robert Taylor is Col. Paul Tibbets and Eleanor Parker is Lucy Tibbets in the "love story behind the billion dollar secret." As the tagline suggests, Hollywood actually managed to produce a romance set against the dropping of the first atomic bomb. Made for an audience still cheering the end of World War II and basking in an optimistic new age.

THE WORLD, THE FLESH, AND THE DEVIL
DIRECTOR: Ranald MacDougall
YEAR: 1959

Harry Belafonte, Inger Stevens and Mel Ferrer are seemingly the last three people on earth following a sodium radiation attack by an unnamed force. Belafonte - who was in a mine shaft when the attack occurred - ventures to New York City and wanders the impressively deserted streets until he discovers Inger Stevens. Before they become too involved, Ferrer shows up and a contest soon escalates between bachelor #1 and bachelor #2 that concludes with them stalking each other through Manhattan.
