Atom Ant - Hanna-Barbera atomic powered super-antHoward "Howie" Morris, veteran comedic actor, director, and voice performer, died Saturday (May 21, 2005) at his home in Los Angeles. Together with Don Messick, Morris was the voice of Hanna-Barbera's Atom Ant (26 episodes starting with "The World of Secret Squirrel and Atom Ant" NBC-TV September 12, 1965), an atomic powered super hero who "has what it takes and always makes the vilest villain cower." Morris' voice-over work included the role of Gerald McBoing-Boing and appearances on The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Beetle Bailey and His Friends, Magilla Gorilla, The Archie Show, Winnie the Pooh, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, My Favorite Martians, Garfield and Friends, DuckTales and Cow and Chicken!

Morris' professional career took off during the Golden Age of Television with Your Show of Shows supporting Sid Caesar and Imogine Coca and he's fondly remembered for the recurring role of manic hillbilly poet Ernest T. Bass on The Andy Griffith Show.

Morris directed the pilot for Get Smart and episodes of The Bill Dana Show, Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C, The Andy Griffith Show, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Hoganís Heroes, Get Smart, Bewitched, Love, American Style and The Love Boat. He directed feature films With Six You Get Eggroll, Who's Minding the Mint? and Don't Drink the Water and appeared in Jerry Lewis' The Nutty Professor and Way, Way Out, Mel Brooks' High Anxiety, History of the World, Part I and Life Stinks.
