CONELRAD Atomic Hygiene: Cold War Short Subject Films

A scene of thoughtful reflection on urban Civil Defense options

OUR CITIES MUST FIGHT

Archer's other civil defense film ('Duck And Cover' being the more well known) is a ponderous examination of the dangers of civilians abandoning an A-bombed city. The story is presented as a dialog between two men, one of whom seems to be perpetually smoking and re-lighting a pipe, sitting in a poorly lit office. Their discussion is punctuated by stock footage of traffic and other illustrative scenes. The film is notable for being the obscure cinematic companion to 'Duck And Cover' and for reflecting the early attitude (one that frequently changed) that cities should not be evacuated in the face of an atomic bombing.
