MASTER MECHANICS & WICKED WIZARDS

Friend of CONELRAD Glen Scott Allen has written a fascinating and entertaining examination of the pop cultural treatment of scientists in his new book Master Mechanics & Wicked Wizards: Images of the American Scientist from Colonial Times to the Present. Allen’s scholarship on his topic is breathtaking, but his writing does not overwhelm the non-academic reader who will find the book to be a fun and educational experience. The editors at CONELRAD particularly enjoyed chapter 7: "Fallout: Politics and Paranoia After the Bomb.” Overall, a very impressive piece of work.
