ATOMIC HAM RADIO POSTCARD

This postcard is a HAM radio operator calling card that was used to provide technical contact information to other HAM operators. Based on the atomic thunderbolt pointing to Richland, Washington on the front of the card, it can be assumed that the issuer, Fred J. McKinnon, took some measure of pride in his hometown's radioactive heritage.

In 2008 Richland still has atomic pride. The Richland High School has a mushroom cloud logo and calls its sports team "The Bombers." The city also has a bar called the Atomic Ale Brewpub that features a beer called "Plutonium Porter."
