ATOMIC BOMB GREETING CARD

This very unusual "Get Well Soon" greeting card from 1946 is one of the stranger examples of atomic pop cultural penetration immediately after World War II. The card is an interesting historic artifact because it reflects - in its simplistic way - the early prevailing attitude that the atom could do anything.

The text inside the card (or "bomb") shares space with little impish anthropomorphic "atoms" wearing hoods:

Each little atom in this bomb will help you to get well--
They'll kill off any germs you've got so you'll be feeling swell!

HOPE YOU'RE LOTS BETTER SOON!

What makes this card especially unique is that is was actually used by a real live American with questionable taste. Apparently, a secretary named Edna Dennis (who did not see fit to add her own sentiments to the card - why mess with perfection?), gave the card to her boss who had undergone a tonsillectomy. The card is dated August 31, 1946.
Each little atom in this bomb will help you get well. They'll kill off any germs you've got so you'll be feeling swell!
