EMAIL THIS PAGE PRINT THIS PAGE CATEGORY: Ephemera CIVIL DEFENSE WALLET CARD The civil defense wallet card was another effort by the civil defense authorities and the Government Printing Office to make preparedness education easier for the typical American. The front of the card lists some preparedness tips and some areas of further learning (first aid, how to protect oneself from radioactive fallout, etc. The reverse side of the card provides a crash course in what warning signals mean. The card probably wound up getting stuck to a lot of family photos in leather wallets in the fifties. If your present day company makes you carry a "Continuity of Business" contact card with a lot of outdated telephone numbers, you can blame civil defense (and the 9/11 hijackers).
